Dr Shanta Chakrabarti

After graduating my medical school in India, I undertook further subspecialty training in Pediatrics and Cardiology in the United Kingdom and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of British Columbia.

My professional work includes  Heart Rhythm disorders and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. In addition, I perform invasive procedures like complex ablations pacemaker, cardiac resynchronization therapy and ICDs.

I am passionate about improving outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Through our organization, Hearts of BC, we do community research and education to achieve that goal.

I am also developing telemedicine projects in rural India through our non-profit organization Kolkata Foundation.

I am very keen to improve the health care situation of the South Asian population in Canada through research, education and advocacy working with  PISA.

My other research interests include arrhythmias with Congenital Heart Disease, Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy, and Genetic Arrhythmias.

I am a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh,  the American College of Cardiology  Heart Rhythm Society and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society.

I am the Director of the Electrophysiology Fellowship Program of the University of British Columbia and the Lead Physician for Device Services and Congenital Heart Disease Arrhythmia Services at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
