Dr. Kapil M. Bhagirath was born in Surrey, B.C., where he completed his early years education and high school. Following this, he completed a Bachelors of Science Honors degree in Pharmacology (1999) and Doctor of Medicine (2004) at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Bhagirath subsequently completed his Internal Medicine and Cardiology residencies at the University of Manitoba. Given his interest in Echocardiography, he thereafter completed a one-year Echocardiography Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. He has been a Staff Cardiologist at Surrey Memorial Hospital since 2011.  His interests include General Cardiology, Echocardiography, Hypertension, and Cardio-oncology. He also has special interest in 3D Echocardiography, trans-esophageal echocardiography (TEE), and strain analysis.

In addition to managing a busy Cardiology practice, Dr. Bhagirath has always made it a priority to make time for his family. He has been married to Gitanjli since 2006 and they have 2 children – daughter Raenah and son Kabir. The importance of a healthy and civil society continues to drive Dr. Bhagirath. It is in this context that he assumed the role of President of PISA in January 2021. In collaboration with Dr. Arun Garg and the current Executive of PISA, Dr. Bhagirath hopes that we all can make an important contribution to our community.
